Our Visit to Wentworth Garden Centre

A beautiful location, with lots of activities on offer for the kids!

Easter activites

My partner has injured his back, and is unable to drive. This is a nightmare for me, as I am very anxious driving in new places. So I began to scour the internet, looking for somewhere local-ish to take my daughter.

The social media page for Wentworth Garden Centre boasted a plethora of easter themed activities. These included being able to hold baby chickens, seeing farm animals, doing an easter egg hunt, and meeting easter bunny. I was sure my daughter would love it.

It was only a fifteen minute drive from my house.

I packed a bag with some snacks, and couldn’t wait to tell my daughter about it when she woke up. Needless to say, she was ecstatic at the thought of an easter egg hunt, and even more eager to meet easter bunny.

The car park was almost full, and it was only 9.30am. We had to park right at the back, something my daughter wasn’t too happy about.

We made our way into the main centre, and were surrounded by beautiful plants and flowers from all over the world. They were lined up as far as the eye could see. It

The Maze

Afterwards, we came to a set of large gates that lead to the maze, planted with yew. It’s walls are grand, and my duaghter couldn’t wait to explore. I am hopeless with directions, and as expected, we got lost. I started to panic slightly, looking around for others to follow. Thankfully, we came across a platform that we could climb up, to be able to see where we were, and where to go.

My daughter was bewildered as she gazed out across the maze. She had so many questions about it, perhaps the most peculiar one was ‘What would someone do if they needed a poo, mummy?’. With other visitors chuckling along, we all agreed it was a fair question.

Eventually, we were able to find the way out. What greeted us after this was truly breathtaking. Elegant gardens lay before us, with perfectly pruned trees and stunning ponds. We loved taking in the fresh air, whilst admiring the peaceful surroundings. My daughter enjoyed sprinting between the trees and exploring the hidden corners of every garden.

The Bear Pit

Next, we stumbled across what appeared to be an abandoned castle. Upon further digging, it is actually named the Bear Pit. It is believed to be where bears were kept in the early twentieth century, but the building dates back to around 1630. It was a little scary and dark, but fascinating to explore.

The Deer Paddock

We were delighted to come across the Deer Paddock. We thoroughly enjoyed taking some time to observe the deer whilst we had a quick drink and snack.

The Farm

Next, we headed to the farm. We were thrilled to find out that we could feed the animals too. The weather was getting warmer and it was so nice to just walk and admire the animals. I think the goats were a little hungry today. They spotted us coming, and one poked his head through the fence in anticipation for some delicious food. As expected, my daughter was more than happy to oblige.

Meeting Easter Bunny

Moving on, we made our way down to where Easter Bunny would soon be making an appearance. The queue to meet him was long, as expected. We made it to the front quicker than we thought and it was our time to meet him!

We then made our way to take part in the colouring competition. My daughter chose to colour in a Civet picture. She definitely showed some creativity, and we are hopeful we may win!

The playground

Finally, the bit that my daughter had been waiting for. The playground.

The playground consists of a large ship structure, full of adventure and challenges for the little ones. From slides and walking ropes, to climbing walls and a steering wheel to ‘steer’ the ship, it was a child’s dream. The ship was situated on a vast bed of sand, another win for my daughter.

We were able to spend a good hour here, and I was so happy to see a coffee shop at the entrance to thje playground. There is seating available all areound the playground for parens to sit and enjoy a coffee, whilst watching the children play.

There is also a restaurant on site that offers outside dining, however we took a picnic with us. Who knows, we may try the restaurant next time!

Feeling tired now, cheerio!
